When alarmed by a passing predator, a googly-eyed glass squid undergoes an astonishing transformation: first, this normally slender squid inflates its body with water, swelling into a transparent sphere. If this does not discourage the threat, the squid draws its head, arms, and tentacles into its cavity. As a last resort, the animals will fill its cavity with ink, disappearing into the darkness.
